Missions & Outreach opportunities

We believe in purposeful engagement in our community to bring about God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We move from the sanctuary into the community to share God’s love with our neighbors.

Below are some small ways that HBC is responding to God’s call. Where is God calling you?

English Language Learners Class for Beginners

Enrolling now! Classes meet Tuesdays at 10:00am.  If you want to enroll, or have an interest in assisting in future ELL classes, please contact Pastor Matt.

Backyard Bible Club

Each summer, HBC conducts a Backyard Bible Club in the neighborhood. This investment has allowed us to tangibly love our neighbors and led to the expansion of other ministries at HBC. With your help, we can expand our Backyard Bible Clubs into new neighborhoods and at regular intervals throughout the year. It’s a perfect way to live out faith, love thy neighbor, and build community.

Blessing Box

The Blessing Box on the edge of HBC’s parking lot helps to fulfill short-term basic needs for those in our community who don’t have regular access to essential items. You can help by donating non-perishable food, hygiene products and other items (contact us to obtain a list of appropriate items), or by assisting with the daily monitoring and restocking of the box.

Creation Care Team

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.” Psalm 24:1

HBC’s Creation Care Team seeks to increase awareness of our responsibility to care for the earth. They encourage and provide opportunities to act in environmentally responsible ways in our community, such as picking up trash, recycling and composting. Contact us to find out how you can get involved in this unique ministry!

Community Bag Lunch

From 10:30-11:30am each Saturday morning for over twenty-five years, HBC has provided our neighbors a hot meal and a bagged lunch to go.

There are several ways in which you can get involved in this ministry:

  • Donate food. Contact us for a list of needed items.
  • Donate funds. All donations go toward purchasing nutritious food items.
  • Help to prepare and serve meals. You can volunteer to help serve one time, or make it a regular commitment.

The Farm Ministry

The Farm Ministry is a local non-profit which assists local dairy farmers by purchasing milk and meat, and provides under-resourced families with nutritious meat and cheese.

How can you get involved in this ministry?

  • Contribute financially. Your gift goes towards purchasing cheese and beef at a discounted rate.
  • Volunteer your time. Deliver the bulk shipments to area food pantries and nonprofits; slice and bag cheese; or deliver gifts of food to our neighbors in need.

Operation Inasmuch

For years, the church and other partners have invested in the community around us through acts of service.  Past projects have included yard care, cleaning, painting, baking, and trash clean-up. Join us as we do our part in making the Shenandoah Valley a beautiful place to live.

Spotswood Elementary School

There are many ways for you to get involved with our “adopted” local elementary school!

  • Donate snacks and treats for the teachers and staff on the last Friday of each month.
  • Support their Knight Bucks Store by collecting donations of gently used items.
  • Volunteer to help students to do their Christmas shopping at the Knight Bucks Store throughout the month of December.
  • Adopt a school family for the Christmas season.
