Ministry partners

We enjoy existing relationships with non-profits and ministry initiatives. We invite you to explore and imagine the many ways you can serve in our community.

Baptist Collegiate Ministries at JMU

BCM at JMU is a student organization centered on loving God, serving others and growing together.  HBC is committed to partnering with BCM to reach students on the JMU campus with the love of Christ.

Bridge of Hope

Bridge of Hope is a local non-profit that works in a three-way partnership between the family, church family, and case manager that helps achieve goals of stability for the family. Churches and community members help the family achieve success through the power of relationships, encouragement and intentional investment in shared experiences.

Mercy House

Mercy House is a local non-profit that helps provide affordable and stable housing to families in need. One of the greatest ways HBC is involved is helping prepare an apartment when a family is ready to move in. We provide a welcome basket of supplies and words of encouragement. When needed, we have helped paint apartments and spruce up the property. We respond to other needs as they arise.

Nasaruni Academy

The Nasaruni Academy for Maasai Girls supports the mission of education for girls in rural Kenya. Maasai girls traditionally are not allowed to receive an education and many are married at a very young age. The Nasaruni Academy provides these girls with an education and helps to decrease the rates of early marriage. Visit the Nasaruni Academy website for more information.

Open Doors

Open Doors is an excellent community resource that cares for under-resourced and food-insecure neighbors. The church often supplies work teams to help with meals and other needs within the Open Doors community.

Operation Christmas Child

HBC donates shoe boxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies through Operation Christmas Child as a means of reaching out to children with the Good News of Jesus Christ. These simple gifts are shipped to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. and to children in countries affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease.

Scouts BSA

For over 85 years, Harrisonburg Baptist Church has sponsored scout troops. HBC is the Chartered Organization for Boy Scouts Pack 42 and Scouts USA Troup 242. The Scouts participate in the Pinewood Derby, camps at Camp Shenandoah and the High Adventure Camp, as well as Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimmaron, New Mexico on a regular basis. Regular service projects are done at HBC and in the local community. Scouts routinely meet on Monday nights at the church. Please contact the church office for more information, and we will put you in touch with the Scout leaders.
