MISSION PROJECTS

BRIDGE OF HOPE – This one of three ministry partners.  Their mission is to engage Christian faith communities in ending family homelessness through neighboring relationships that demonstrate Christ’s love.

MERCY HOUSE – This shelter for women and their children is our second ministry partner.  We sponosor an apartment at the shelter.  We are currently asking for donations for welcome baskets for when a new family moves in.

SPOTSWOOD ELEMENTARY – This school of Preschool through fifth graders is our third ministry partner.  On the last Friday of each month we provide snacks and treats for the teachers and staff.  In December we provided donations of gently used items for their Knight Bucks Store and staff the store for students to do Christmas shopping for their family and friends.  Donations for the “store” will collected in October and volunteers are needed to help the children shop and wrap gifts.  We are now accepting donations of fall and winter clothing any size from infant to adults including children’s coats for their November clothing closet.  Clothing items will be accepted in the elevator foyer until Sunday, October 21. We will once again be adopting school families for the Christmas season.

MISSION TRIP – We had a small mission team travel to Liberty, Texas the first week of April to help rebuild a home severely damaged in last summer’s hurricane.  The project was coordinated by the VA Baptist Mission Board and Liberty Baptist Church of Liberty, Texas.

OWSLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – We have adopted a second grade class at Owsley Elementary School in Kentucky.  We have sent our end-of-the-year package of school supplies, Early Readers books, and a monetary check for the teacher to purchase additional materials and a pizza party to celebrate the end of the school year.

SATURDAY COMMUNITY BAG LUNCH – HBC has served our neighbors lunch each Saturday morning for over 20 years.  We have 10 teams who rotate on a weekly basis.  Each Saturday morning between 11 am and 12 noon, they prepare a hot lunch for those in need within our community and also send a bag lunch home with each person.   If you or your group would like to volunteer one Saturday, please contact us to find out how to get involved.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Our mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoe boxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Boxes are now available in the church foyer.  Make sure to include $9 each for shipping.  The last day to dropped off boxes will be Sunday, November 11.  We will have a special blessings of the boxes during worship.
