OPERATION INASMUCH
“Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of these my brethren, you did it to me.
 (Matthew 25:40)

Our next scheduled OIAM is Saturday, April 22, 2017

Operation Inasmuch (OIAM) is our one-day mission blitz within our community.  Projects are chosen through various local organizations with whom we work.  Projects can range from construction projects … building a deck, repairing a roof, installing siding, upgrading bathrooms, etc. … to painting to yard work, landscaping and cleanup to baking and delivering goodies to local fire departments and rescue squads.  So don’t think you can’t participate if you don’t know what to do with a tool belt or power tools.  There are projects for every age and every skill level.

Operation Inasmuch has been a very important part of the ministry of our church for many years and this year is no exception.  BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!  We cannot make this happen without YOU!!  This will be done on a smaller scale than it has in recent years.  There may be one or two area churches that join us but the primary responsibility falls on our shoulders.  Please let us know throughout the month of February if you will be able to help.  We need to have these early commitments so we will know exactly what we will be able to do for our community.  Above all, please keep Saturday, April 22 in prayer!  Please use the sign up forms at the Info Desk to indicate how you can help.

HBC ON A MISSION 5K/10K

Our 3rd Annual 5K/10K was held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds last spring.  We raised funds for our three mission partners … Spotswood Elementary School, Bridge of Hope and Mercy House.  Each year, our race registration dollars are divided up between these three non-profits because our very generous sponsors completely fund the cost of the race. Each year we have raise over $4000 to be divided between these three non-profits.

A 5K/10K will be held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on Saturday, November 4, 2017.  This is a walk/run event, so even if you’re not a runner, you can bring your kids, bring your stroller and/or bring your pets and walk or run to help support a great cause.  We hold a Toddler Dash, a Big Kids Sprint, a 5K Run/Walk and a 10K Run/Walk.
OTHER MISSION PROJECTS

MENTORING AT SPOTSWOOD ELEMENTARY –  Do you have any spare time between 4-6 pm on a week day?  Would you like to make a difference in the life of a child?  We can reach out into our community by building relationships and sharing the love of Christ with children at Spotswood beginning in January with our new mentoring program.  No experience is necessary … just a willingness to play board games, read books, help with  homework, share some smiles, and make some lasting memories.

MISSION TRIP – Each summer we have a group of volunteers go on a mission trip. This year our group went to Camp Hope Tree in Blue Ridge, VA.  Camp Hope Tree is a ministry of Hope Tree Family Services.  Founded in 1890, Hope Tree is committed to serving at-risk youth, as well as people with intellectual disabilities.  Both construction and non-construction jobs were completed.

DRESS A GIRL AROUND THE WORLD – Dress a Girl Around the World is an organization that clothes children in various parts of the world with at least one high quality dress.  These dresses are hand delivered with smiles, prayers and often a Bible or a cloth doll that matches the dress.  Sadly, for most of these precious girls, the handmade dress they are given will be the only dress they ever own.  Each year we hold Sewing Circles as we come together and sew these dresses.  We also have individuals, groups and other churches who sew and donate dresses.  In 2015, we had over 190 dresses made!!  If you, your group or church would like to get involved, please contact the church at 540.433.2456.

SATURDAY COMMUNITY BAG LUNCH – HBC has served our neighbors lunch each Saturday morning for over 20 years.  We have 10 teams who rotate on a weekly basis.  Each Saturday morning between 11 am and 12 noon, they prepare a hot lunch for those in need within our community and also send a bag lunch home with each person.   If you or your group would like to volunteer one Saturday, please contact us to find out how to get involved.
