Missio Dei An Ancient/Future Worship Gathering

One of the strangest things occurred on the first evening as Sandy and I set out on our 7600 mile road trip.  God spoke to both of us simultaneously, before we even had made our first stop, that something different was needed on Sunday nights.  Which was cool.  Both Sandy and I have no problem with God speaking to us--we just don't always get exactly what He's saying or what He's up to.  This was one of those times.  Yet, as we traveled the country visiting numerous churches we got it.

We both came to believe God was leading us to suggest to the church's leadership that we move from a college Bible study on Sunday evenings to something different.  The something different we had come to believe was a "worship gathering" open to all persons but with a distinct appeal to college students and twenty-thirty somethings.  Fortunately, HBC's leadership was willing to listen and eventually bless the idea.  Out of that came, in what must surely feel to some light speed, Missio Dei an ancient/future worship gathering.

Now I could tell you all about it but better just check out the above link and see what you think, maybe consider participating, but especially pray.  Sandy and I are excited about this new thing God is up to and, since He suggested it by the prompting of the Holy Spirit, are curious as to where it will go.  It's like we're hitting the open road again.

I am really excited to see how this gathering grows and changes. I have been reading the book you loaned me, "Emerging Worship" and it really resonates with me as a PK, having grown up in the church my entire life, and having felt somewhat disconnected. I am looking forward to being a part of Missio Dei and seeing how God moves in this new work. The concept of "emerging worship" or "emerging generations" of course has some buzzword qualities to it, but the main thing I am discovering is that if we are truly seeking for God to move in a powerful way, then it doesn't matter what we call it. When we are free to worship God in spirit and in truth, then He comes to meet with us. The Missio Dei hopefully will be a great step in reconnecting people with God on a deeper level than simply sitting in a passive pew. I have so many ideas just swirling with this, that I can't wait to get started.
